LAKEWOOD – A nursing home in Lakewood has reported an outbreak of scabies at their facility.
Scabies, which is a highly contagious skin disease caused by the infestation of a parasite, was first reported on February 7 at the Fountain View Care Center on Route 9. Since then, several people at the Center have experienced effects of the disease, including rash and intense itching, which can last up to several weeks.
To prevent additional spreading of the disease, the facility’s rooms and clothing have been disinfected and those exposed have been treated.
County health officials believe the disease has not spread beyond the facility.
