Man Fired, Sued After Alleged Groping at Route 37 ShopRite

TOMS RIVER – An employee of the ShopRite on Route 37 has been fired and sued after allegedly groping two woman at the store in March.

The employee, Whiting resident Robert Derflinger Jr., allegedly groped the women, ages 16 and 49, while they were shopping at the store on March 18. TRPD media specialist Jillian Messina says the groping was caught on tape by surveillance cameras. Derflinger was fired by ShopRite on March 21, however the victims’ attorney stated the store did not contact police after being told about the assault. The two victims have now filed lawsuits against Derflinger himself and the ShopRite for not properly screening and training him and their alleged failure to call for Police after the incident.
